I haven't posted in a while, but I'm glad to see you guys made it through this mayhem.Here in Ohio I lost power Monday night and didn't get it back until late afternoon Friday......longest I've ever been without power. Being a single man with no kids here it was not so bad except that I had to throw away a good bit of food from my 'fridge.
Altec Best......those downed poles in your area look insane! Incredible that so many poles would come down in a row like that.

Years ago a friend had a funny one panel cartoon taped to his fridge. I twas titled "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide. It showed a map of the US with tornadoes in the Midwest, blizzards in the north, hurricanes in the south, earthquakes in west, New Yorkers in New York, etc. There is trouble everywhere. I don't recall anyone on this board mentioning those knobs besides me. So, i have to assume you're referring to me. I'm not sure i appreciate the inference.
The only discussion i've ever had regarding cost/price of them was with you Gary, and the only cost/price discussed was what you paid to have them produced, a price for the two dozen or so that i was interested in was never discussed! I asked you for a price for a certain quantity, shipped, and never heard from you again.

Good to hear you're OK AB, also bowtie and others out that way. Is anyone in contact with Scott Fitlin? Coney Island must have been just about ground zero for Sandy's storm surge.
My Daughter lives in Brooklyn and they came through Sandy OK, lost a tree in front of the house but otherwise OK. Their friends, who stayed with them during Irene because they live close to the beach, decided to ride this one out at home. They haven't heard from them yet. I hope that's due to lack of power and/or wet phones. The weather is forecasting a Noreaster to blow in to the coast, this week. Those poor folks may get hit with more rain and some flooding, bad news.
Sadly for all of us, Scott Fitlin died a little over two years ago . I believe the family sold the property after that .Quote:

Scott Fitlin was a member here. That was his username. He was also a Super Moderator at LHeritage. He ran a bumper car place on Coney Island.

Not so happy to hear about the passing of Scott Fitlin, he was a very gracious and warm soul. Scott offered up a personal tour of his facility to me and my family on a past trip to Brooklyn. Unfortunately, schedules conspired to make that impossible. I'll always regret not being able to have met Scott in person, he was one of those folks that was dedicated to bringing the best sound to all around him and knew how to accomplish that. I hope on my next visit to the East Coast, I can visit the Eldorado and see Scott's passion in action.

I know this is a really late response to this thread. I was without broadband service for so long that I'm just now getting back to speed.
I'm only a mile or two from the Ocean. The path predicted for Sandy, right up to an hour or so before she made landfall, looked like it went directly over my house!
I bought gas for the generator, tested it and then started getting about 20 pairs of mostly Altecs and 4 pairs of Tannoys to the second floor of my house.
The wind got to the point wherein the glass in the garage doors sounded like it exploded. Then stuff started getting sucked out side through the the small windows.
Lot of Altec horns and drivers in the garage as well as my A&'s and one pair of my Velenchias.
All I could do was to cover them with tarps and hope for the best.
In the end, the only damage to my audio gear was the destruction of the 12" Ortophon RMG-309 arm on my table which was quite close to where a window met a large tree branch.
Anyone got a 12" arm for sale or trade?
I'm glad that no one here was injured.
